Tabata
Short intervals. A focused half hour.
The Class
What to expect
Tabata is interval training with a clear work-and-rest rhythm. The classic format uses 20 seconds of effort followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated eight times. A studio class uses that idea within a longer session, with time to prepare, practise the movements and recover between blocks.
Expect short rounds of full-body movement that challenge your stamina as well as your strength. Exercises can include squat variations, standing cardio movements and core work; the exact selection depends on the session. Sara explains the movements and helps you choose a pace and range of motion you can control.
The aim is purposeful effort throughout each interval. You can slow down, take extra recovery or use a lower-impact version when needed. In a group of around three to six people, there is room for individual guidance while you enjoy the motivation of training together.
Is this your class?
Choose Tabata if you like variety, timed rounds and a focused workout that fits into a busy day. It is an energetic option for people who enjoy changing exercises rather than repeating one activity for the whole session.
You do not need to match anyone else’s speed. If you are new to interval training or returning after a break, talk to Sara before booking so you can decide on a suitable starting level. For a calmer session centred on control and breathing, explore Pilates 30.
Plan Your Session
A little preparation.
A better session.
Wear comfortable training clothes and supportive trainers, and bring water. Arrive with time to discuss the exercises before the intervals begin. Tell Sara about any injuries, health considerations or movements you are unsure about.
